Feedback from the Participants

Insights on our recently completed COSH Training.

What good is there to have high productivity if you will lose people out of disregard for safety? Our workers are the treasures of the company. Hardworking, hardened by experience and honed to excel in their fields of expertise shouldn't be left compromised with dangers lurking in the corner. Life is the utmost priority in any working environment and losing one out of neglect of safety is one too many. We catch mistakes from the very roots before they flourish. These are the essential foundation I have learned in the recently concluded COSH training. Practical applications which I can use in and out of work.

It is my heart not just as a safety officer but as someone who deeply cares for my team and the lives that I am responsible. The part of the training that stood out for me is that it emphasized the importance of safety and health standards in the workplace and why it matters for every worker including us. It is also important to share the information and safety to the workers by conducting mandatory OSH Seminar and toolbox meetings, this ensures them that they are equipped with knowledge and training about occupational health and safety standards. As a graduate of BS Civil Engineering and now a safety officer, I realized that it is not just a position it is a big responsibility that we hold. We are trusted to protect lives of our workers and give their family an assurance that they are safe in our hands. Throughout the training I gain deeper understanding of how to manage a safe working environment and be the frontliner of leadership in building a safe and healthy work place. To the future safety officers, this training is not just compliance it is an eye opener for mindset and culture in work place. Know that every work and task has a risk and that risk can be avoid by having awareness and knowledge. Stay safe and stay aware.

A moment of care can save a lifetime of regret. As a civil engineering student, attending the Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Training was an incredibly eye-opening experience. It provided me with essential knowledge about safety protocols, hazard identification, risk management, and legal responsibilities that are crucial in the construction industry. The training bridged the gap between what we learn in the classroom and what truly happens on site. It made me realize how important it is for students like me to be exposed to these realities early on, so that in the future, we will not just build structures, but we will build them safely and responsibly. One of the most powerful lessons I took away from the training is that “safety isn’t just a rule, it’s a responsibility.” Understanding this before stepping into the professional world gives me a stronger sense of accountability, not just for my own well-being, but also for the people I’ll work with in the future. COSH training didn’t just prepare me for compliance, it prepared me to be a more responsible and safety-conscious future engineer.

The COSH training taught me the importance of keeping the workplace safe and following safety laws like DOLE DO 13 and the OSH Law. I learned how to identify hazards, assess risks, and apply safety controls such as using PPE, setting rules, and improving equipment or processes. The training also highlighted the role of a Safety Officer in leading safety efforts, conducting toolbox meetings, reporting incidents, and making sure workers are trained. It emphasized the need for proper emergency plans, first aid, clean facilities, and safe work practices, especially in construction activities like scaffolding and excavation. Overall, it helped me understand how to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment for everyone.

The four-day Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) training significantly deepened my understanding of workplace safety. The Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Safety stood out most, thoroughly classifying health hazards (physical, chemical, biological) and emphasizing proactive control measures. Similarly, the Accident Investigation provided a practical framework for analyzing incidents not to assign blame, but to prevent recurrence and enhance safety protocols. These sections underscored that OSH extends beyond mere compliance, encompassing a comprehensive approach to identifying and mitigating risks for overall worker well-being. This training transformed my perspective, revealing OSH as a multifaceted discipline focused on holistic worker protection and environmental impact, rather than just basic rule adherence. It highlighted the critical importance of robust programs and shared responsibility in creating truly safe and healthy workplaces. My message to future participants is to fully engage with the material, as it provides fundamental knowledge and practical skills essential for developing effective Construction Safety and Health Programs, ultimately making them champions for safety in their fields.

COSH Training highlighted a fundamental shift in my understanding of occupational safety and health from mere compliance to a strategic imperative for every organization. The program's comprehensive approach, spanning legal frameworks, hazard management, and emergency preparedness, underscored that OSH is not an isolated function but an integrated element of successful and ethical operations, demanding proactive management and continuous improvement. The Accident Investigation particularly resonated with me, emphasizing its core purpose: to prevent future losses by diligently uncovering root causes, rather than assigning blame. Coupled with the clear understanding of the DOLE OSH Framework and alarming statistics on work-related accidents, the training instilled a profound sense of responsibility and urgency in proactive safety management. To future COSH participants, I would urge you to fully immerse yourselves in this invaluable training. See it as an opportunity to become a true advocate for safety, equipping yourselves with the essential tools like Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC) and systematic Accident Investigation. Remember, your role is pivotal in fostering a workplace culture where safety is paramount, continuously improved, and embraced by everyone. This training provides the foundation; your commitment will build a truly safe and healthy environment for all.

As an aspiring civil engineering student, the COSH SO2 40-hour training has broadened my understanding of safety and health standards—not only in the construction industry, but also across various other fields. This exposure has opened up greater opportunities to expand my career prospects. As a student, the training has increased my eagerness and willingness to further learn and improve my knowledge of safety and health regulations. Kasi nga, SO2 na ako—handa na para sa mas malalaking oportunidad at responsibilidad para sa kaligtasan.

Then I discovered the COSH SO2 training and everything changed. That wasn't just another module or checklist. It reignited something deeper. It gave me structure, yes but also voice. It reminded me how to express who I really am beneath the weight of pain. Through that training, I didn't just rediscover direction, I reclaimed purpose. the COSH SO2 training gave me: • Advanced skills in hazard identification and risk control, especially for construction and high-risk industries • Mental clarity and renewed confidence through structured learning and leadership development • Legal compliance knowledge under RA 11058 and DOLE Department Order No. 13, s. 1998 • Communication and leadership tools to express myself and guide others • A sense of purpose to protect lives, promote safety, and serve with integrity. Now I know my calling is rooted in service. In safety. In being the voice that protects, guides, and uplifts. I may not be fully healed, but healing isn't a destination, it's a rhythm, and I am moving to its beat, one day at a time. To those feeling 'late' in life: you're not behind, you're on your own timeline. I've learned that being late to your goals doesn't mean you've failed. Life is a marathon you have your own finish line. It's okay to pause but never to give up. Consistency beats perfection every time.

Attending the COSH Training has been a transformative experience that reshaped the way I view occupational safety. It emphasized that safety goes beyond following protocols, it's about building a culture of awareness, responsibility, and care for every individual on-site. I gained deeper insight into identifying hazards, understanding risks, and applying proactive measures to protect not just the workplace, but the people within it. What stood out most was how the training connected real-life scenarios with practical solutions that can be applied directly in the field. It made me realize that as a safety officer, I have the capacity to influence positive change, lead with purpose, and contribute to a work environment where everyone feels protected and valued. With these learnings, I'm ready to step forward with confidence, knowing I can help create a safer and smarter workplace.

The most impactful part of the training was the discussion on hazard identification and risk assessment. Learning how to recognize potential hazards before they result in accidents truly emphasized the importance of proactive safety measures. The real-life cases and accident investigations also made a lasting impression, showing the human and organizational cost of neglecting safety protocols. Before the training, I saw occupational safety mostly as a set of rules we had to follow. Now, I understand that it is a mindset and a culture that must be embedded into every task. Safety is not just about compliance; it is about care for yourself, your coworkers, and the people who rely on the work being done. My message for the future participants is to take this training seriously; it could save lives. Go beyond just passing the requirements. Absorb the knowledge, ask questions, and commit to making safety a part of your daily routine.
