The Legacy Continues: PICE-NMMC Kicks Off Civil Engineering Month 2026
Kicking off Civil Engineering Month 2026 under the theme "The Legacy Continues," PICE North Metro Manila Chapter (Charter No. 92) rolled out an action-packed Week 1 from November 1–8, 2026. From conducting a Local Infrastructure Audit at Valenzuela City's Bignay Disiplina Village to staging a CAMANAVA motorcade, a Zoom webinar, and the "Hilaga" sports tournament, here is how PICE-NMMC opened this year's celebration.

Every November, civil engineers across the Philippines step out from behind their blueprints and job sites to celebrate the profession's vital role in nation-building. Established under Presidential Proclamation No. 904 (s. 2014), which officially declared the month of November of every year as Civil Engineering Month, the annual observance highlights the technical excellence, civic duty, and camaraderie of Filipino civil engineers.
Leading the charge in the northern metropolis, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. – North Metro Manila Chapter (PICE-NMMC, Charter No. 92) officially launched Week 1 (November 1–8, 2026) of its Civil Engineering Month 2026 celebration. Carrying the banner "The Legacy Continues," the opening week blends hands-on community structural service, continuing professional education, thanksgiving, and competitive sports across the CAMANAVA region and Quezon City.
Engineering for the Community: Local Infrastructure Audit at Bignay Disiplina Village
Rather than opening the month with ceremony alone, PICE-NMMC began its Week 1 lineup with direct technical service to the public. On November 4, 2026, at 9:00 AM, chapter engineers conducted a Local Infrastructure Audit at Bignay Disiplina Village in Valenzuela City.
The activity aligns with the nationwide Local Infrastructure Audit (LIA) Program spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in partnership with PICE and the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP). Through ocular screening and structural vulnerability assessments, volunteer civil engineers evaluate public and LGU-managed buildings against seismic, typhoon, and flood hazards.
Conducting the audit at Disiplina Village Bignay carries major community significance. As one of the country's largest Galing Pook award-winning in-city socialized housing developments—home to thousands of former informal settler families relocated from danger zones along the Tullahan River and local waterways—ensuring the long-term structural soundness and safety of its medium-rise buildings directly protects thousands of Valenzuelano residents.
CAMANAVA Motorcade, Thanksgiving, and Technical Learning
Following the mid-week field audit, the celebration shifted into high gear on Saturday, November 7, 2026, uniting practitioners, chapter officers, and members for a full-day lineup of fellowship and learning:
8:00 AM – PICE-NMMC Motorcade (CAMANAVA): Chapter members hit the road in a multi-city motorcade across the CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela) corridor to raise public awareness of Civil Engineering Month.
10:00 AM – Thanksgiving Mass (PICE-NMMC Headquarters): Engineers gathered at the chapter headquarters to offer a Thanksgiving Mass celebrating another year of professional milestones and safe project execution.
10:00 AM – CE Month Celebration Webinar (Via Zoom): Simultaneously opening access to members and students online, the chapter hosted a dedicated Civil Engineering Month Celebration Webinar via Zoom to foster continuous learning and technical knowledge-sharing.
Friendly Rivalry: The PICE-NMMC "Hilaga" Tournament
Proving that civil engineers bring the same intensity to the court and lanes as they do to project deadlines, the afternoon and evening of November 7, 2026 were dedicated to the PICE-NMMC "Hilaga" Tournament:
1:00 PM – Pickleball Tournament: Held at Smash Plus, Valenzuela City.
1:00 PM – Badminton Tournament: Held concurrently at Smash Plus, Valenzuela City.
8:00 PM – Bowling Tournament: Capping off the day's festivities under the lights at the QC Sports Complex.
By combining grassroots structural safety audits in Valenzuela's public housing community with regional fellowship across CAMANAVA and Quezon City, PICE North Metro Manila Chapter sets a strong benchmark for how professional chapters can celebrate Civil Engineering Month with both purpose and unity.
