EASTS-TSSP Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) Student Chapter recently hosted a Safety Awareness Talk, organized in collaboration with Inhinyerong Sibil and the Atsoca Learning Hub. The event gathered engineering students, aspiring safety officers, and academic mentors with one unified purpose: to highlight the importance of safety and hazard prevention across all fields of work.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Jhon Mark M. Marcelino, President of EASTS-TSSP NVSU SC, underscored the vital role of safety in professional practice. “Precaution is the backbone of a safe environment,” he emphasized, reminding participants that the commitment to safety is not confined to the field of civil engineering or construction—it is a universal principle applicable to every industry.
Mr. Marcelino also expressed gratitude to the event partners and the evening’s resource speaker, Engr. Paul Christian Alado, SO3, for sharing his expertise. He encouraged participants to “stay engaged, ask questions, and most importantly, learn together” in order to maximize the value of the session.
The Importance of Safety Awareness in Modern Industry
In today’s fast-paced and highly industrialized world, safety awareness has become more critical than ever. From construction sites and engineering projects to offices, factories, and laboratories, every workplace faces potential hazards. Failing to address these risks not only endangers lives but also disrupts productivity, damages reputations, and increases costs due to accidents or unsafe practices.
As Mr. Marcelino pointed out, the responsibility of ensuring safety lies not just in compliance but in culture. Future professionals must adopt a mindset where safety is prioritized in every decision and action. Whether preventing accidents through hazard identification, using proper protective equipment, or fostering open communication about risks, safety awareness is the key to creating sustainable and resilient work environments.
Collaboration for a Safer Future
Through initiatives like this Safety and Health Awareness Talk, NVSU, Inhinyerong Sibil, and ATSOCA Learning Hub demonstrate how collaboration between academic institutions and professional organizations can empower students and professionals alike. Equipping future engineers and safety officers with the right knowledge and mindset is not only about meeting regulatory requirements but about protecting lives and shaping a responsible workforce.
As the session moved forward, participants were reminded that safety is more than a requirement—it is a shared responsibility. With every precaution taken, we contribute to a culture that values not only efficiency and innovation but also the well-being of people and communities.
